Walk down Grandview Avenue this week and you will notice what is missing before you notice what is new. The street murals that colored the pavement between Olde Wadsworth and Yukon are gone, scraped off in the spring resurfacing. The parklets and patio installations that grew up during the pandemic years came off with them. The alley behind the block you probably park in is intermittently fenced. If you have lived in Arvada long enough to have a favorite bar stool, the district you are walking through right now is in the middle of a physical reset.
Here is the part the generic event roundups miss. The programming calendar between now and mid-September is denser than usual, and that is not a coincidence. The City of Arvada, the Olde Town Business Improvement District, and the venues on the block are all leaning harder on events this fall because the streetscape itself is a work in progress. If you plan around the closures, you get a better Olde Town in October than the one you had in April.
What Grandview Tavern Became This Spring
The most substantive food change in Olde Town this year is at 7427 Grandview Avenue, inside the historic Barth Building. The Grandview Tavern & Grill, a fixture on that corner since 2004, was taken over in April by chef Jeremy Wolgamott, formerly the executive chef at Bistro Vendôme in Denver. He kept the name, kept the exposed brick and tin ceilings, and pointed the kitchen south.
The midday move is the $20 hot-plate lunch, which runs until 3 p.m. and lets you pick a protein such as fried rainbow trout, smoked chicken with Alabama-style white barbecue sauce, or a pickled shrimp salad, with sides like hushpuppies, cornbread, coleslaw, or potato salad. Dinner shifts into family-style plates and a gumbo built on a dark roux that swaps rice for potato salad. The bar leans beer-forward with classic cocktails in the mix, which is a real departure from what the same room served a year ago.
"I want to show that there's another side to Southern food that's more vegetable-centric," Wolgamott told Westword after the reopening.

The September 12 Shindig Has a Different Job This Year
The Olde Town Shindig lands on Saturday, September 12 from noon to 8 p.m. On paper it is what it has been: artisan vendors, live music, food trucks, a kids zone, and a live mural competition. In practice, the 2026 edition is doing double duty as the launch event for the district's new public art plan.
Because the spring pavement work required removing the existing street murals, the Arts and Culture Commission and the Olde Town BID are commissioning three new street mural installations on Grandview, plus corresponding vinyl wraps on nearby traffic poles. The selected lead artist for the Grandview installation will facilitate a community painting day during the Shindig itself, meaning residents can help paint designated sections of concrete rather than just watch someone else work. The competition side of the festival still awards a grand-prize commission of up to $10,000 for a permanent business mural inside the BID.
If you have kids who like to draw, or a teenager who has opinions about which mural got picked last year, this is the Shindig to bring them to. It is the one where they get to actually put paint on the street.
The Construction Map, Translated for a Saturday Night
The friction is real, and it is worth knowing before you drive in. Two overlapping projects will shape how you move through Olde Town through the rest of the year and into 2027, per the City of Arvada:
- Olde Town Alley Power Line project. Alley closures between Olde Wadsworth and Yukon are progressing from Ralston Road south to Grandview Avenue, with lane closures on Ralston and Grandview during active work in those areas.
- Arvada Library redesign. The sidewalk in front of the library, at the corner of 57th and Webster, has been closed since March 23, 2026, and stays closed through early 2027.
- New street murals on Grandview. Construction and painting phases will intermittently affect the blocks around the mural sites through the fall.
The workaround most residents underuse is the RTD G-Line, which drops you at the Olde Town Arvada station three blocks from every restaurant on Grandview and runs to Union Station in roughly 25 minutes. If you are meeting friends coming from downtown for the Shindig or for a Wolgamott dinner, the math on the G-Line beats circling the free municipal lots on a Saturday night.
The city's Parking Finder and the free lots off Grandview and behind Olde Wadsworth are still available; they just fill up earlier now that the alley cut-throughs are intermittent.
What Else Fills the Next Six Weeks
The other reason to look up from your usual routine right now is that the Arvada Center's season swings open the same weekend the Shindig hits.

The 2026-2027 theatre season opens Friday, September 4 with Misery, William Goldman's stage adaptation of the Stephen King novel, running through October 11 on the Main Stage. It is followed on September 25 by Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park in the Black Box through November 1. If you have not tried the pricing tricks, the Arvada Center sells a set number of $20 Access Tickets to every performance outside opening nights using the code ACCESS, and releases unsold seats as Rush Tickets one hour before curtain at the Box Office. Parking on the campus is free, which is the opposite of the calculus on Grandview.
In the Olde Town blocks
August 8 is a stacked Saturday. Whiskey Fest 2026 runs from 5 to 9:30 p.m. in the district, and Second Saturdays, the recurring open-gallery-and-shop night, happens the same evening. Trick or Treat Street returns Friday, October 30, which is worth blocking on the family calendar now because it fills the same streets that are still being worked on.
If your Saturday defaults are Lady Nomada at 7519 Grandview for the birria fries, School House Kitchen inside the 1913 schoolhouse at 5660 Yukon, or a nightcap at the Arvada Tavern with the phone-booth passage into Bernard's Tiki Room at 5707 Olde Wadsworth, none of that has changed. What has changed is what sits in between them. 303 Ramen still tucks into the former house at 5725 Yukon. Secret Level's pinball and golf simulators still hum at 5711 Olde Wadsworth. Grandview is the address that got a new chef, and the pavement between all of them is the surface that got a new plan.
The Habit Worth Building This Fall
The reason to pay attention to Olde Town right now is not that any single event is unmissable. It is that the district is quietly reorganizing itself in public, and the September calendar is where you can actually see it happen. A new kitchen took over a 20-year-old tavern. A pavement project erased the murals that defined how the street looked, and the community painting day on September 12 is how the replacements begin. The library corner will be a construction zone through the winter and come back different in 2027.
